New opportunities arise regularly for additional performances with Ovation! and with partners in our community. Classes and individual student performers are selected to participate in these performance opportunities based on a number of criteria. Ovation! students who demonstrate a level of professionalism, dedication to their program, and positive approach to the opportunity will be afforded appropriate showcase opportunities as they arise.
These are some of Ovation's! performance opportunities and partners:
MOTUS O DANCE THEATRE - A Christmas Carol
Each year, our Artists-in-Residence, professional dance theatre company MOTUS O, holds auditions for local performers to join their cast for their annual presentation of Charles Dicken's "A Christmas Carol" which they perform at 19 on the Park in Stouffville. Ovation! students (6 yrs and up including adults!) are invited to audition and create the entire community cast for 2 of these performances! Notices are posted at the Ovation! studio and on the Ovation! facebook page. Or you can email Chris@ovationarts.ca for all audition, rehearsal and performance details.
ONSTAGE PRODUCTIONS - Annual Christmas Show
In December of 2012 a beautiful new relationship was struck between Ovation! and Onstage Productions (formerly Scarborough Choral Society). Three of our classes (17 students) joined the cast of Onstage's annual Christmas Show. It was a fabulous opportunity and we’re talking about further collaborations!
8 POINTS CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE - Annual Winter Show
For the past few years, Ovation! has worked with the 8 Points Centre of Excellence, an elite figure skating club run by Monica Lockie. We've trained their skaters in dance, character/drama, and the overall ART of PERFORMANCE. And we've had several of our classes and students participate in their annual winter fundraising show at Angus Glen Arena in Markham.
CROHN'S & COLITIS 'GUSTSY WALK'
~ Annual spring fundraiser in on the grounds of Richmond Green Park in Richmond Hill
Ovation! is a proud supporter of the
(the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of Canada).
Our family is personally impacted by crohn's disease, as are several other Ovation! families. Throughout our season we raise funds for the CCFC through donations and concession sales at all of our shows and events, and donations at our studio. Ovation! also donates a $1 from every ticket sold to our shows throughout each season.
The annual "GUTSY WALK" is a big fundraiser for the CCFC - the walks are held in numerous towns and cities across the country. Ovation! has participated in the walk since 2008 and for two years we choreographed and performed a FLASH-MOB DANCE at the event to help raise awareness and funds for this worthy cause.
For more information about the CCFC and the GUTSY WALK, or to make a donation, click on their logo here:
With your help, the cause and the cure for this insidious disease will be found.

Thanks for your support. ~ Bonnie and family
FLASH MOBS, LIP SYNCH VIDEOS, 'RAP's" - various events
How does a ‘FLASH-MOB’ work?
You may have seen a flash mob on a youtube video but not known what it was! A FLASH MOB is when a large number of people (MOB) perform a song or dance or theatre ‘happening’ in a place when people least expect it <> in the middle of a subway station, or at some public event.
Suddenly, out of nowhere, music starts and it appears as if total strangers just start singing or dancing together. Well, the secret of course, is that none of this just happens. It's all rehearsed with the participants before-hand. But it's supposed to look unplanned and unrehearsed.
The point? To surprise people. To spread a little joy!
Ovation! has produced several vocal and dance flash-mobs in the past few years. And now we're setting our sights on a potential lip-synch video event too. So stay tuned here as ideas come together for our next surprise Random Act of Performance (RAP)!
WORLD THEATRE DAY - March 27th annually
On Friday, March 25th, 2011 Ovation! invited students and parents and families and friends to come to the studio and create a video to celebrate World Theatre Day (**) which is feted annually on March 27th. .......We wanted to do this for fun and to share the message of using the arts to work towards a culture of peace and humanity.
What happened was spectacular!..........
Wow! Two of Canada’s most accomplished musical theatre artists came to help out....Louise Pitre and Adam Brazier, supported the event and helped deliver this important message. Thank you to everyone who participated in this event! It was a great day - a terrific experience. We also can't thank Louise and Adam enough for taking the time out of their incredibly busy lives to help communicate this message. Their work mirrors on a much larger scale, the work we do here at Ovation!, supporting the development of Canada's emerging artists. Fostering creativity, encouraging the presentation of our uniquely Canadian voice. It was thrilling to share our space with such talented, caring and giving people. It was amazing! And a special nod to Brian at GreenMan Video! Kudos to all! ~ Bonnie

** World Theatre Day was created in 1961 by the International Theatre Institute (ITI). It’s celebrated annually on March 27th by the international theatre community, and each year various national and international theatre events are organized to mark the day. One of the most important of these is the circulation of the World Theatre Day Message through which at the invitation of ITI, a figure of world stature shares his or her reflections on the theme of Theatre and a Culture of Peace.
RICHMOND HILL SUMMER OUTDOOR MOVIE NIGHTS
Since 2010, Ovation! has sponsored the Town of Richmond Hill Moonlight Movie nights. This is a fabulous summer event that encourages neighbourhoods to come out and enjoy a movie (for FREE!) under the stars! As part of our sponsorship, Ovation! summer camp students are chosen to showcase some of their performance pieces before the movie starts, and we also run some fun interactive ‘theatre games’ for audience members too. Enjoy a few video clips on our Youtube channel demonstrating some of the student performances from July 2013. These are some of the students from our summer DO-IT-ALL camp (ages 8 to 17 and various levels of experience from true beginners on up!):
~ Man in the Mirror (by Michael Jackson)
~ What It Means To Be A Friend (from the musical '13')
~ Stutter/Sing Sing Sing (a dance mash-up)
