The Acting/Drama program at Ovation! moves students through the full arsenal of acting techniques and dynamics. Each level moves at a steady pace that begins by introducing or strengthening the basic foundation elements of dynamics, movement and trust, and then streamlines to focus more intently on specific subjects, depending on the class.
In a nutshell, an acting class encompasses learning to work with scripts, language, stories, characters, intentions, and actions. We focus on things like: creating a character (mentally, physically, vocally); shaping scenes (thru-lines, arcs, rhythms, tempos); voice (clarity, projection, strength, dynamics); staging and blocking (movement, flow, placement); collaboration and trust (teamwork, building a cast, sharing connections on-stage and with your audience); listening and responding (effective partnering).
For the serious study of theatre, our child, youth and adult courses are a unique educational and social experience. Students need to be willing to try, experiment, and let their guard down/be open. There’s really no right or wrong in acting class. It’s about the personal journey and the discovery as you go along, building towards a presentation of your work. Our goal is to help students become life-long learners, practitioners, and appreciators of the performing arts, which in turn infuses their lives with imagination, artistry, and creativity.
