| LOOKING FOR AN AGENT? or INDUSTRY AUDITION INFO? Ovation! students and families have access to an info package we've created about finding an agent (it’s geared mostly to parents looking for agents for their children, but the same principles apply for adults too). We’re eager to offer assistance any time we can, to any student wishing to pursue their studies or performance opportunities. All the instructors here are trained educators who are also working professionals in the industry, so we often receive notices about auditions for commercials, productions, etc.. We send them along to our clients, primarily through our Facebook page, so it would be smart for you to join that fanpage and the twitter and youtube accounts too. We disseminate all kinds of industry info through these channels. Ovation! doesn't actively recommend an agent for people because it’s such a personal thing = you need to research and meet with a couple of different ones to make your own decision of who you connect with. | |

- Know the Lingo!~ A Performing Arts Glossary
- There are government agencies (at all levels, municipal, regional, provincial, and federal) that have tremendous impact on the way the industry functions, through granting and facilitating programs.
- There are producing companies who 'build' and produce shows of all types from the ground up, often using all Canadian or mostly Canadian talent.
- There are presenting organizations, whose role is to book/schedule/present artists and shows in a variety of venues across the province and country. In York Region we have 5 main presenting venues run by local municipalities: Markham Theatre for Performing Arts; Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts; Vaughan City Playhouse; Newmarket Theatre, Lebovic Centre for Arts & Entertainment, 19 on the Park.
- There are talent scouts, agents, artist representatives, artist managers.
- There are service organizations dedicated to helping specific areas of talent: Theatre Ontario, Dance Ontario, Canadian Actors Equity Association (Equity), ACTRA, etc.
- There are local arts councils dedicated to supporting arts, culture and heritage in their communities.
- And there are some fabulous community arts groups working out there with children, youths and adults in theatre, musical theatre, and music.
